KENNEWICK, Wash. - An RV that caught fire Friday night in Kennewick also damaged two homes.

Firefighters with the Kennewick Fire Department were called to the 8300 block of West Yellowstone Avenue just after 11 p.m. When they got to the scene, firefighters said they found an RV on fire in the backyard of the home and the growing fire was becoming a threat to several nearby homes. Because of this, more fire crews were called in to help and officers with the Kennewick Police Department and a crew from Benton PUD also responded to the scene.

According to fire officials, the owner of the RV told them they had been working on repairs to the RV and there was a gas leak in the engine compartment. At some point, the RV caught fire and the owner tried to put out the fire, but it spread too quickly. A nearby shed also caught fire and was destroyed.

Firefighters said they were able to get the fire under control in under 15 minutes of arriving at the scene. They had used their deck guns, which allowed them to deploy a large amount of water on the flames quickly. Despite the quick actions, two nearby homes were damaged by the flames. That damage, however, was kept to the outside of the homes and fire crews said no fire damaged the inside of the homes.

    No one was hurt.
