VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas ( KETK ) – In this From the Archives report from 1995, a Van Zandt County feed store owner won $4 million in the lottery.

Larry Russell, who was the owner of a feed store in Van Zandt County, won $4 million in the lottery after buying a ticket from his own store.

“I’ll be damned,” a patron of the feed store remarked after learning of Russell’s winning.

“I’ve always kidded with my customers that if someone buys the ticket here I can get my percentage out of it, now I don’t know what my odds are of winning both of them, but there’s a first time for everything,” Russel said.

Russell was the first store owner in Texas to buy a winning ticket from their own store, taking some home for himself and a 1% cut for the store.

Russell told KETK that he had been buying $20 of Quick-Pick tickets for several years, and he was glad that it finally paid off.

“My CPA says ‘just enjoy it and we’ll worry about it next year,” Russell said.
