OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – Geo Martinez is coming to terms with a scary reality.

“That could have been anybody. It’s crazy that it happened to her,” said Martinez. “It’s just been putting a little toll on us, honestly.”

He and his friend were inside his home off of NW 36th Street in Oklahoma City in the early hours of August 7.

“We just heard a loud boom,” said Martinez. “We just walked around a little bit to see what was going on. We didn’t see nothing.”

Oklahoma City Police said later that day they were called to the home of Martinez’s next door neighbor, 72-year-old Kathleen Cade.

“Family had notified police, indicated that they hadn’t spoke with the victim in a while,” said Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Dillon Quirk.

Police found Cade with a head injury . She was rushed to the hospital.

However, in a troubling twist revealed Thursday, investigators said doctors soon discovered Cade had actually been hit by a stray bullet.

“It’s unclear where that actually came from. It was believed that it happened in the street or possibly on the sidewalk there,” said Quirk. “But right now, all our leads are exhausted on this case.”

Cade sadly died from her injuries on Wednesday, Aug. 14, a week later.

The case is being investigated as a homicide. So far no arrests have been made.

“Miss Kathy was very, very nice. She was a retired teacher. Yeah, no way she had any enemies at all,” said Martinez. “They need to find out what’s going on, because that’s somebody’s life that just got taken, and that’s very important.”
