SAN FRANSICO (KRON) — X, the social media company formerly known as Twitter, will shut down its San Francisco headquarters in two weeks — on Friday the 13th of September, according to a report. The microblogging platform, which is owned by Elon Musk, circulated an internal memo cited by the New York Times earlier this month announcing plans to close the SF HQ “over the next few weeks.”

According to a subsequent report in Fortune , the company sent a note to staff Thursday announcing that the headquarters will close for good on September 13. The SF headquarters, which is located on Market Street in the beleaguered mid-Market neighborhood, has long served as the social media company’s global headquarters.

According to the NY Times, workers at the SF office will move to existing offices in San Jose. Musk, the Tesla CEO who purchased Twitter in 2022 and later rebranded it as X, announced in July that he would be moving the social media company’s headquarters to Austin .
