P and Z approves Cedar Hill Mill rezoning, development plan
The Cedar Hill Improvement Partnership (CHIP) is one step closer to saving the Cedar Hill Mill, erected in 1847. Members from CHIP petitioned the Jefferson County Planning and Zoning Commission to rezone the mill, 8460 Wolf Road, from single-family residential to a planned mixed zone. The petition also included a development plan for parking on the property.
P&Z approves preliminary plans for Fenton villas, townhomes
The Jefferson County Planning and Zoning Commission has given the OK to plans for a new housing development in the Fenton area. The development, called Hillcrest, at 801 Romaine Creek Road near Hwy. 141, would include 40 housing units with duplexes, triplexes and one quadplex on nearly 9 acres of land.

Taco chain will open second St. Louis-area location this month
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A restaurant chain that serves tacos will soon open its second St. Louis location, in west St. Louis County. Tacos 4 Life, a fast-casual franchised restaurant chain, will open a new restaurant in Ballwin in mid-July, restaurant operators said in a news release. It would be the chain’s second St. Louis-area location, after previously opening one in O’Fallon, Missouri, in November 2021.
Dates set for Chesterfield Mall closure, demolition
ST. LOUIS COUNTY (First Alert 4) -- The dates for the closing and demolition of the Chesterfield Mall have been officially set. The last official day of operation will be August 31, Tim Lowe of the Staenberg Group, which owns the Chesterfield Mall, confirmed to First Alert 4. Lowe said demolition will begin on October 15.
Freeway Fix: I-44 in SGF gets more money for big upgrades
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - On Friday, Governor Mike Parson signed the 2025 state budget for the coming year. The $50-billion spending plan includes money for several projects across southwest Missouri, including $577-million for expanding Interstate 44. The money for 44 ended up being $150-million less than what lawmakers requested (following a line item veto by the governor). However, the remaining amount will still go a long way toward paying for a big chunk of the 250-mile-long project between Saint Louis, Springfield, and Joplin. The state says the long-range goal is to widen the highway from four to six lanes as it's currently doing to I-70 across the state between the Saint Louis and Kansas City metro areas.

Brooks appointed to De Soto School Board of Education
The De Soto School District Board of Education will have a new member when it meets in July. The school board voted 5-0 June 20 to appoint Kari Brooks to fill the seat that has been vacant since the spring when Nicole Spruell resigned. Board member Mark Ferrell was absent from the meeting.
