KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — Kinston police officers responded to an assault report June 20 at Wells Fargo on W. Vernon Ave.

Upon arrival, a victim told them she was waiting in line when a bank employee began yelling at her. It escalated from there she told law enforcement, saying Lucretia McMurtry, 55, grabbed her by the neck, shook her head uncontrollably and began strangling her.

KPD officers investigated the incident, gathered evidence and charged McMurtry with felony assault by strangulation and resisting a public officer.

McMurtry was released on an unsecured bond.
