    MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

A jury found a Mexico, Missouri man guilty of drug trafficking and firearm charges on Monday.

According to a press release from the Audrain County prosecutor, a jury found Larry Karhoff, 53, guilty of two counts of first-degree drug trafficking, being a felon in possession of a gun, drug possession, unlawful use of a weapon and driving while suspended.

Prosecutors charged Karhoff after a traffic stop in February 2022. A trooper arrested Karhoff for driving with a revoked license. During a search of Karhoff, the trooper found methamphetamine, fentanyl, alprazolam and hydrocodone.

Investigators also said Karhoff had a handgun. Due to previous convictions, Karhoff was not allowed to have a gun.

The jury deliberated for about two hours following the one-day trial.

“The jury was very attentive to the evidence, and listened intently to the facts through this trial,” Audrain County Prosecutor Jacob Shellabarger said. “I commend them for their focus, persistence and dedication to a just result. This jury has delivered a powerful message to this community that drug offenders will face justice, illegal firearms will be stopped, and actions have consequences.”

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 7.
