Tennessee Vols fans won't love where ESPN ranked Neyland Stadium among best venues in college football

Ahead of the 2024 season, 14 of ESPN's college football writers ranked the best stadiums in the sport (with no specific criteria).

And Neyland Stadium, the home of the Tennessee Vols, isn't quite as high on the list as UT fans probably think it should be.

ESPN's writers ranked Neyland as the No. 10 stadium in college football.

Here's their top 10 (you can check out the full top 25 here ).

1. Tiger Stadium -- LSU
2. Rose Bowl -- UCLA
3. Michigan Stadium -- Michigan
4. Notre Dame Stadium -- Notre Dame
5. Beaver Stadium -- Penn State
6. Husky Stadium -- Washington
7. Ohio Stadium -- Ohio State
8. Camp Randall Stadium -- Wisconsin
9. Bryant-Denny Stadium -- Alabama
10. Neyland Stadium -- Tennessee.

From ESPN : Members of the Vol Navy set sail as early as the middle part of the week for Neyland Stadium, which sits on the banks of the Tennessee River. The stream of orange-clad banners flying from boats floating down the river is matched only by the mass of orange that engulfs Peyton Manning Pass to watch the Vols' players and coaches make their way down the hilly street and into the stadium. For years, Neyland Stadium has owned one of the largest capacities in the sport and is now listed at 101,915 following some renovations over the years.

Constructed in 1921 as Shields-Watkins Field (now the name of the playing surface), Neyland Stadium is also home to one of the most renowned entrances in college football. The Pride of the Southland Marching Band forms a giant "T" for the players and coaches to run through just before kickoff, and the end zones are painted in orange and white checkerboards. And one other thing: You're liable to hear the band crank up "Rocky Top" about 100 times a game.

All of the stadiums in the top 10 are unique venues that should be on every college football fan's bucket list.

And while lists are these are obviously subjective (you could probably just pull the names of these stadiums out of a hat and put together a respectable top 10 list), I'm sure Vols fans were expecting to see Neyland at least ranked above the homes of Washington, Wisconsin, and probably even Alabama.

Tennessee fans, however, can take solace in the fact that Neyland was ranked above Florida's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Georgia's Sanford Stadium, and Texas A&M's Kyle Field.
