With just a few weeks to go before the start of the 2024 season, 247Sports took on the task of ranking the top 25 quarterbacks in college football.
Tennessee Vols redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who will take over as UT's starter this fall, comes in at No. 24 in their rankings.
From 247Sports : No player inside the top 25 played fewer snaps than Iamaleava, so all receipts are welcome if Tennessee's former five-star signee fails to deliver. He should be a dynamic passer in Josh Heupel's multi-read looks and if Tennessee's wide receiver talent steps up, there's no reason Iamaleava can't be one of the nation's most accurate.
Tennessee is obviously hoping that Iamaleava soars up this list by the end of the season. If he does, it probably means the Vols are in position to make the College Football Playoff. If he doesn't, then it probably means that Tennessee will be heading to a lackluster bowl game.
As far as the ranking goes, No. 24 is probably fair for now for Iamaleava. As noted by 247Sports, Iamaleava has the fewest amount of snaps of any quarterback in their top 25. The upside for the former five-star quarterback is limitless, but he still has a lot to prove on the field. And until he does, it's not really fair to suggest that Iamaleava should be ranked at the top of the list.
