The Wichita School Board has approved the district’s facility master plan, on a vote of 7-0.

The plan consolidates 10 buildings, including elementary schools, alternative schools, and administrative centers. It also calls for the rebuilding of seven schools, five elementary and two middle schools, and repurposing two buildings for alternative programs.

The plan will also create a building trades center at Wichita East High School and add a new early childhood center. It also would convert Cessna and Isely elementary schools into kindergarten through 8th-grade centers.

They have considered asking voters to approve a $450 million school bond.  However, the board has not decided if it will proceed with that plan. Earlier this month, the district’s chief financial officer said that if they want to pass one, they need to start the process soon.
