PSU brings back travel photography course

    2024-04-06

PITTSBURG, Kan. (KOAM) -- A course introduced last year at Pittsburg State University is making a comeback for the second year in a row.

The course introduced last year by the Graphic Communications program is GC 590 Special Topics: Travel Photography. The course last year, took students to Washington D.C. This year, students will travel to New York City.

According to Professor Chauncey Rion Huffman, it provides students with an opportunity to learn about street/documentary photography, architectural photography, portraiture, lifestyle photography, and photographic storytelling.

“The aim of the course is to help students create professional quality images while traveling,” he said, “but they also learn travel etiquette including how to navigate a major metropolitan area effectively.”

According to the press release from PSU, the course is open to all without prerequisites, regardless of major or level of photography experience. Hands-on guidance will be provided.

“New York City offers a unique blend of plentiful street photography, striking architecture, and cultural learning opportunities that are not found in many cities,” Huffman said. “Exploring this city with the knowledge of how to effectively capture images that tell a story about the experience will be at the heart of the course.”

Enrollment for the class will begin April 7, 2024.

Cost for the trip will vary from $500 to $650 depending on attendance.
