    Local community events going on during Memorial Day Weekend

    (KOAM) -- Memorial Day Weekend is almost here and organizations around the area are planning community events.

    Missouri

    NOEL:

    • The River Ranch Resort is kicking off the holiday with a Memorial Weekend bash at the ranch. According to the organization, the bash will include camping, lodging, and floating.

      • May 24 at 4 p.m. until May 28 at 8 a.m.

    JOPLIN:

    • The ROCC is hosting a Memorial Day BBQ and Bingo event.
      • 1402 S Main Street, Joplin, Missouri.
      • May 26 at 2 p.m.
    • Midwestern Built Gym is honoring our nations heroes with an annual Memorial Day "Murph WOD". According to Allevents in Joplin, everyone is welcome.
      • 121 E 10th Street, Joplin, Missouri.
      • Heats kick off at 10:15 a.m.

    WEBB CITY

    • Mount Hope Cemetery is hosting a National Moment of Remembrance in honor of Memorial Day.

    CARTHAGE:

    • Midwestern Built Gym Carthage is honoring our nations heroes with a Memorial Day Murph and Community Day. According to the event page, attendees will be able to workout and then enjoy food and drinks during a corn hole tournament. The gym will be donating two various causes.

    LAMAR:

    • The Barton County Strength Club is hosting a Murph challenge. According to the event page, the challenge consisted of one mile, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, and 300 squats.

    • The Newton County Courthouse is hosting a Prayer on the Square for Memorial Day.

    • The Fort Scott National Cemetery and volunteers are placing mini flags on all headstones.

    PARSONS

    • The City of Parsons is kicking off Memorial Weekend with the start of Katy Days.
    • Activities Include:
      • 5K/1K
      • Pickleball, Disc golf, Cornhole, Volleyball, Horseshoe tournament
      • Scavenger hunt
      • Petting zoo
      • Displays, Food, and more.
    • Forest Park

    YATES CENTER

    • The City of Yates Center is hosting Yates Center Days with a Memorial Day Service.
    • Activities Include:
      • 5K Run/Walk
      • Pancake feed
      • Car show
      • Inflatables
      • Beer garden
      • Live music
      • Parade, and more.

    CHANUTE

    • The City of Chanute has a Veterans Memorial the community can visit.

    • G.A.R. Cemetery is honoring veterans with an annual Memorial Day Ceremony. According to the event page, refreshments will be served in the gazebo following the ceremony.
