Tractor trailer rear-ends vehicle in slowing traffic at highway speeds

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — Just as the early morning fatal crash at I-44 exit 8 west cleared around 1:40 p.m. a crash occurred I-44 westbound about 1:55 p.m. near 1.4 mile marker involving passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer.

As available officers and agencies rushed to the scene, we were told a female passenger was ejected from a vehicle after being rear-ended by a tractor trailer at highway speeds.

The female was semi-conscious suffering serious injuries and transported to a Joplin area hospital. The male driver was also transported with injuries unknown.

On scene we observed traffic backed up nearly 4 miles.

Metro Towing removed the passenger vehicle. The tractor trailer was able to drive under its own power to the next exit.
