NIXA, Mo. — While we may be looking at cooler temperatures throughout the weekend, people are still looking ahead to summer days in the near future.

Last summer, the Nixa pool was not able to open for the season, but renovations are underway for the summer of 2024.

The Nixa Parks and Recreation Department is looking forward to the pool being open this summer so long as the construction can stay on track.

“We’re saying right now the first week in June,” said Matt Crouse the Nixa Parks and Recreation Director. “And so we’ll get an exact timeline as we get a little closer to the end of the project and we’ll we can make sure that we’re on time frame. I can tell you that they’re on time right now.”

Last year, before the pool was able to open, The Parks Department discovered a 75,000-gallon-a-day leak in the underground pipe system.

“We did try to fix that last year and just were unsuccessful,” Crouse said. “And so, we took a step back, kind of relooked at the project and decided, you know what, it’s a 22-year-old pool. Let’s replace all the underground piping, ensure that we don’t have a leak again in just a few years by replacing one spot when there’s an entire system underground there.”

The construction to fix the pipes is also allowing for some upgrades.

“We are adding more pool deck space, more shade structures. We’re adding a play structure within the pool,” Crouse said. “And so it’s going to have a little more play value, a little bit more amenities there for our guests as they start coming in to the pool.”

Crouse says to fix the pipes, it will cost around one million dollars. They are also looking to add a splash pad in Nixa that likely won’t be open this summer, but will add $600,000 to the total of $1.6 million.

Enessa Terzi lives in Nixa, and she said her and her kids were disappointed when the pool closed last summer.

“We wanted to take the kids out somewhere. It was very hot and humid, so we took them down to Republic, which was like, a thirty-something-minute drive,” Terzi said. “And we only went once for most, most of the summer we spent indoors because it was hot and there was nothing much going on here.”

Terzi says her family is looking forward to warm summer days spent playing in the renovated pool.

“We are just so excited that we have a lot of kids and community, the community we have a lot of families that are looking forward to that,” Terzi said. “and we’re going to be very disappointed if they don’t open.”

Nixa Parks and Recreation said swim lessons and season passes are on sale. For more information, you can visit their website .
