NIXA, Mo. — A dog rescue organization out of Nixa is celebrating the rescue of 1,000 unwanted dogs from Nixa Animal Control.

The 1,000th rescued dog, a male tri-colored Shepard Mix, was freed from Nixa Animal Control on May 1 and is now ready to be fostered or adopted through 4 The Love of K9s Dog Rescue.

Founded in 2003 by owner Sherry Lee, 4 The Love of K9s has been partnering with Nixa Animal Control to find loving homes for unwanted dogs, which has led to 1,000 dogs being rescued.

“Since 2003, our mission has not changed… partnering with local animal control facilities to provide vet care for discarded, unwanted dogs and placing them in safe, loving forever homes, regardless of medical needs, age, or breed,” said Sherry Lee. “We are a foster-based rescue saving Missouri dogs… one dog at a time.”

4 The Love of K9s says they help dogs across the city by networking with area volunteers to find a foster home or a willing adopter for unwanted dogs whose owners have not picked them up from the Animal Control pound after five days.

They also cover the cost of necessary vet procedures, such as vaccines, chipping, spaying, and complex surgeries, paid for by an adoption fee and from the pockets of Sherry, her team, and other donors. The Cobblestone Veterinary Hospital also helps 4 The Love of K9s by taking care of the medical needs of rescued dogs.

“I am very appreciative of the service 4 The Love of K9s provides to the city. This organization plays a vital role in saving and improving the lives of our furry friends,” said Nixa Police Chief Joe Campbell. “4 The Love of K9s aims to save every dog who can be saved and is passionate about animals having a chance at life, even if they face medical or behavioral challenges. We are thankful for our collaborative partnership with Sherry and her team.”

The dog rescue thanks its 285 volunteers, fosters, community businesses and Cobblestone Veterinary Hospital for supporting them throughout the years.
