CORVALLIS, Ore. — Three brand new fire risk signs have been unveiled this week in Corvallis, strategically positioned at key locations throughout the community to enhance awareness of fire risks, particularly during the hot and dry summer months.
The unveiling marks the culmination of a collaborative effort involving various local entities. One of the signs, notably, holds special significance as it was designed by local teenager Keaton Davis as part of his Eagle Scout project. Mounted on wheels, the sign offers flexibility in placement, allowing Corvallis Fire Department (CFD) staff to relocate it to different high-visibility areas near Station 1 throughout the day. Keaton Davis, son of retired Corvallis Firefighter Kevin Davis, received appreciation for his contribution to crafting this innovative and functional sign.
Another sign finds its place outside Lincoln Elementary along OR 99W / SW 3rd Street. This project was a joint endeavor between Corvallis School District, Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), and CFD. Trent England, Corvallis CERT Program Manager, spearheaded the design and construction of sturdy wood frames for this sign, strategically placed in South Corvallis to broaden community education about fire risk across the city. ODF Firefighters, alongside CERT volunteers, lent their expertise to the construction process.
The third sign, situated at the corner of OR 99W and Lewisburg Avenue, is the result of cooperation between Corvallis Rural Fire Protection District, Comcast, and CFD. Comcast staff Reid Wyse and Kevin Bannister played pivotal roles in determining the sign's location and securing approval for its installation. Members of the Corvallis Rural Fire Protection District Board expressed gratitude for the new sign's placement, which aids in disseminating fire risk information to community members in the northern part of the service area.
Funding for these three signs was made possible through support from the Oregon Department of the State Fire Marshal, underscoring the importance of interagency collaboration in community safety initiatives.
The deployment of these new signs represents a significant step in bolstering fire risk awareness in Corvallis and its environs. The success of this endeavor owes much to the concerted efforts of various partnerships involved in bringing the project to fruition.
