A Waco man could face a Dallas County death penalty trial over the murder of two convenience store clerks in two days.

21-year-old Davonta Mathis has just been indicted for capital murder for a rampage that happened in June. On one night police in Mesquite say Mathis murdered a 60-year-old gas station clerk at Broton and Hickory. Then the next night they say he killed another clerk at a Pleasant Grove convenience store that was just a couple hours away.

Police still have not said why they think Mathis drove from Waco to that area, as Sergeant Curtis Phillip said at the time.

The bond for Mathis has been raised from $7.5 million to a whopping $12.6 million. Because this case involves two murders during the commission of robberies, the death penalty is on the table.
