Many people will be celebrating this Labor Day weekend, but TxDOT and local law enforcement are warning people not to drink and drive.

TxDOT and local police are stepping up enforcement across Texas over the holiday through the "Drive Sober, No Regrets" campaign. Dallas Police Officer Michael Dennis says if you've been drinking, the solution is simple: "public transportation."

Last year in Texas, there were 334 DUI-alcohol-related traffic crashes over the Labor Day weekend, resulting in 14 fatalities and 35 serious injuries.

Analicia Zarate shares with KRLD that she understands the pain and anguish that come with these crashes. When she was just four years old, a drunk driver ran a stop sign and hit her mother's car as they were coming home from church. Her mother died instantly and she landed in the hospital in a coma.

Beyond the possibility of taking a life and facing jail time, driving impaired can result in time-consuming legal hassles, as well as fines and fees up to $17,000.
