( KRON ) — Monday is Memorial Day, the day we celebrate the men and women who died fighting for the United States in wars. Around the Bay Area, there are events and ceremonies being held to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Many businesses and government agencies are closed in observation of the holiday. Here’s a rundown on some of what’s open and closed on Memorial Day.

Is Costco open on Memorial Day?

Costco locations around the Bay Area and the country are closed on Memorial Day. The holiday is one of the few days that Costco actually closes. Bay Area locations will reopen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Costco gas stations are also closed on Memorial Day.

Is the post office open on Memorial Day?

Posts offices are closed on Memorial Day along with most government agencies. While there is no regular USPS delivery service for Memorial Day, Holiday Premium Priority Mail Express and Holiday Same Day Package delivery services are available.
