Woman killed after crashing into tree on southbound 280 in Daly City

( KRON ) — A woman was killed Friday morning after crashing into a tree on the embankment of the southbound lanes of Interstate 280 in Daly City. The crash occurred just south of the John Daly Boulevard Tunnel, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said the 911 call came in at 8:06 a.m. reporting a solo crash. Responding officers found the vehicle overturned after colliding with the tree.

Fire department personnel responded and located a woman who was trapped inside the vehicle. During the extrication process, respondents determined she was deceased. She was pronounced dead at 8:20 a.m.

Two southbound left lanes on 280 were blocked as a result of the crash but have since reopened. Residual delays are expected, according to the CHP.

The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office is expected to provide an update at a later time.
