QUESTA, N.M. (KRQE) – The New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services honored a Korean War veteran for his service to the country and his role in paying tribute to the fallen. Former U.S. Army Corporal Claudio Rael donated the use of land for several days each year in Questa where thousands of American flags are planted every Memorial Day weekend.

“Him still wanting to continue to serve his fellow veterans speaks volumes about veterans helping veterans and ensuring there is a voice for those who are no longer here,” said Cabinet Secretary Jamison Harrison, New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services.

The annual Healing Field of Honor Display has been taking place at his property for the past twenty years. At the ceremony on Wednesday, they also celebrated Rael’s 96th birthday.
