NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Bernalillo County Commissioners approved more than $2.5 million in funding in hopes of improving water systems in Carnuel. The approval dedicates $2.5 million from the Bernalillo County General Fund as a local match to support the Carnuel Water and Wastewater Project Water Trust Board’s grant application

The legislation is part of a joint effort between the county and the water authority to expand water and sewer services in responses to concerns over public health and environmental concerns in the Carnuel area. Commissioners say most homes in the area use wells that are going dry or producing water that isn’t safe to drink. The funding will be used as leverage for grant applications to the state water trust board.
