ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For the third time in seven days, New Mexico United scored three goals in a game. The latest instance came on Saturday night as the black and yellow took down visiting Monterey Bay FC 3-2. With the win, New Mexico now has 14 wins on the season, which is a new single-season record.

After a draw on Wednesday night and the “worst first half” of the season according to coach Quill, United came out with a fiery intensity on Saturday. Mukwelle Akale got the party started in the 12th minute with a goal from a free kick, then Jacobo Reyes added to the lead in the 28th minute and a corner from Akale to the head of Kalen Ryden found the back of the net in the 78th minute.

“It’s amazing what [scoring goals] does to you and it does to your psyche and I am just glad that we are scoring goals and we are feeling good about ourselves and hopefully that translates into next weeks performance as well,” Quill said in a postgame interview.

“Its been a while since we won here, so its been disappointing to not capitalize on those recently. So, tonight is a revive and good for us moving forward,” Ryden said.

With the win, New Mexico grew its lead atop the western conference to seven points over second place Sacramento. Up next for the club is a road trip to Colorado Springs next Saturday.
