WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The NBC World Series celebrated 90 years on Thursday night at Eck Stadium, and this year is even more special for a group of Wichita State University baseball players.

Four members of the Shockers baseball team are playing for the Hutchinson Monarchs in this year’s tournament.

Outfielder Jaden Gustafson, third baseman Camden Johnson, pitcher Jace Miner, and pitcher Parker Morris are all getting summer league baseball action before they suit up for the Shockers when the fall semester begins.

“I’m excited to just let the younger ones know…you don’t have to be 100% serious all the time, and things are going to be funny,” Gustafson said. “So I think it’s important that they get this time with us, and it’ll help them early on.”

Morris is heading to Wichita State this fall as an incoming freshman, and he said playing in the NBC World Series with several of his teammates is the perfect prep for his first season with the Shockers.

“It’s amazing,” Morris said. “It’s like I just got here, and I’m just looking out here, soaking it all in, you know? So, I’m going home for the next four years, and I’m excited. It’s awesome.”

Miner is heading back to Wichita this season after playing for Oklahoma last year. He joined the Sooners after spending the 2022 season with the Shockers, so he knows what it’s like playing in Eck Stadium.

Before these four players go back to Wichita State, though, they’re hoping to help the Hutchinson Monarchs repeat as NBC World Series champions.
