WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A local scout group is asking for your help after their trailer was stolen from a church.

The trailer belonged to Cub Scout Pack 662 and was stored at the Calvary United Methodist Church near 29th and Rock. The organization says someone cut the chains on the trailer and stole it on Aug. 15.

The trailer is white and 5 by 8 feet in dimensions. It has a side door and a single swing door in the back with a red and blue shield. The license plate says “UNDER 2M.”

The scouts bought it using the money from popcorn sales. They then used it to carry equipment for camping trips.

This is the third time a trailer has been stolen from the group. Previously, it happened in 2019 and 2015.

Pack leaders and parents say this theft creates more headaches as they plan the next trip in November. They’re concerned about how it affects the kids.

“We’re going to try to insulate them from as much of the of the hurt that we feel as possible. But inevitably, it’s going to have an effect on the kids directly,” said Ben Blankley, parent.

The pack’s Cub Master calls this incident a gut punch, saying something kids earned through fundraising was taken away.

“The kids will be angry when they hear that the trailer was stolen, and they’ll be angry with the situation and the person that took it. But I think it’s a reminder that they need to continue doing their best, that they cannot change what this person did, but they can control how they react to it,” said Nathan Huerter, the Cub Master of Pack 662.

A Wichita Police Department representative says they don’t have new details on this investigation. They say these types of thefts are increasing and that there’s a 16% increase in trailer thefts this year compared to the five-year average.

If you’ve seen the trailer, please call the police, or you can contact Crime Stoppers.
