    One dead in southeast Topeka shooting: police

    UPDATE: The Topeka Police Department is now investigating this incident as a homicide. The victim has been identified as Malik J. Keith, 26, of Topeka. This is Topeka’s 12th homicide of 2024.

    Topeka ( KSNT ) – The Topeka Police Department (TPD) is investigating an early morning aggravated battery incident.

    According to a press release from TPD, on Sunday, Aug. 18, just after 4:00 a.m., officers responded to the 3100 block of Southeast Fremont on a report of gunshots.

    Upon arrival, officers found an adult male suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

    The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
