    Car stolen with child inside, two Topekans arrested

    Update 9:36 p.m.: Topeka police have arrested two Topekans involved in an aggravated battery Tuesday morning.

    Before 4:15 a.m., officers with the Topeka Police Department (TPD) responded to a reported aggravated robbery of a stolen vehicle near Southwest 29th Street and Macvicar Avenue. Once TPD arrived on the scene, it was reported that the vehicle was stolen by people who were known to the owner of the vehicle. According to a news release from TPD, a child was inside the vehicle. The child was located near the 3200 block of Southwest Central Park and was taken to police custody.

    Later, officers located the stolen vehicle near Southeast 35th Street and Indiana Avenue and initiated a traffic stop, according to the news release. The driver fled, initiating a short pursuit. The pursuit ended when the vehicle hit a pole near Southeast 29th Street and Minnesota Avenue where two suspects fled on foot. Officers found the two individuals and took them into custody. The individuals were transported to a local hospital to be treated with non-life-threatening injuries.

    Around 8:30 a.m., TPD officers received a report of an unresponsive male in the 2200 block of Southeast 29th Street. Officers responded and found one individual who was taken to a local hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. According to the news release, TPD investigators believe the incidents are related.

    After investigating, a 21-year-old and 24-year-old, both from Topeka, were arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on the following charges:

    • Attempted 1st-degree murder
    • Aggravated kidnapping
    • Aggravated robbery
    • Aggravated battery
    • Aggravated child endangerment
    • Felony interference

    TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – The Topeka Police Department is at the scene of a crash in southeast Topeka.

    A police watch commander told 27 News there’s an ongoing investigation involving a crash around 4 a.m. at 29th and SE Minnesota Avenue. The watch commander said more information would be provided later.
