EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — TxDOT is partnering with the El Paso Police Department and other local law enforcement, sharing their anti-drunk driving campaign as summer comes to an end and the Labor Day holiday weekend is near.

TxDOT says their new campaign, “Drive Sober. No Regrets” aims to reduce the number of DUI-related alcohol-related traffic crashes, injuries, and deaths especially as more people take to Texas roads for the end of summer and Labor Day weekend.

From Aug. 16 through Sept. 2, increased law enforcement patrols will “aim to reduce the number of DUI-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities across our state. This effort coincides with the national heightened enforcement period sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,” TxDOT said.

“At the center of the campaign is Analicia Zarate of Edinburg, TX, who was just 4 years old when she and her mom were headed home from church on November 12, 2000. A drunk driver ran a stop sign and hit their car, killing her mom (Nereida Flores Garza) instantly. Due to Analicia’s own injuries from the crash, she wasn’t able to attend her mom’s funeral,” TxDOT said.
