MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — Skipping lines and going to the gas station have just become easier in the Magic City.

This Amazon Just Walk Out store on South Broadway is the first store of its kind in Minot, and the first one in North Dakota — with the closest one like it a kiosk at Coors Field in Denver. When you walk in, you tap your card over the card reader or insert it. Then, the gates open, and you are free to shop.

On the shelves under each item is a scale that knows when you pick something up or place it back on the shelf. This is how your card is charged for the items you pick up along, with the 233 cameras that see what you grab. On your way out, there is a kiosk that will give you a receipt if you enter your email address.

Leaders from Enerbase know this may be the first time some people in North Dakota have ever tried this concept.

C-Store brings Amazon Walk Out technology to Minot

“There are a lot of things that we do that are new in life,” Enerbase’s General Manager Ricky Aberle stated. “I mean it is worth trying once, just to try it. There’s nothing very different about it other than you are providing a form of payment upfront rather than at the end, you grab all your stuff, and then you just walk out.”

There will still be employees to restock shelves, answer questions, and facilitate tobacco purchases. There are also full-service attendants at the gas pumps who can help customers pump their gas, check their air pressure, wash car windows, and even check oil.

Aberle states that the idea came from Enerbase seeing the stations at some airports. They then called Amazon and asked if they could scale this to a C-store level.

    The store’s hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
