BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — Corbin Lampert, 20, of Bismarck, was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole during his sentencing hearing in Burleigh County District Court on Thursday, August 20.

In April, Lampert was found guilty by a jury in the death of 16-year-old Taryn Hohbein, and they also found him guilty of illegally possessing a firearm at the time.

Corbin Lampert was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2023 murder of 16-year old Taryn Hohbein.

Witnesses testified at his trial that they saw Lampert, who was 19 years old at the time, holding a handgun at a Bismarck apartment shortly after hearing a gunshot and finding Hohbein lying on the floor. Hohbein was sent to the hospital, where she later died from a fatal gunshot wound.

Taryn’s father, Jesse Hohbein, was in the court room to face Lampert during his sentencing and testified that Lampert’s actions caused him to lose his daughter who he loved dearly.

“You took something from this family that I can’t get back ever. A chunk of my life is gone because of you. I’ll never get to see my daughter graduate. I won’t be able to hug her again and see her smile,” expressed Hohbein.

Corbin Lampert sits in Burleigh County District Court to hear his sentence on Thursday, August 29.

Angela Schwarting, Taryn’s mother, later told the court, “It takes a lot of strength and courage, which my daughter was filled with, when you, Corbin Lampert, took that away from me, her father, her brother, all of her family and friends.”

Judge Pamela Nesvig accepted the state’s recommendation that Lampert be sentenced to life in prison without parole. She cited his extensive juvenile history of prior crimes and his failure to accept responsibility for the murder as the basis of her ruling.

Lampert has 30 days to appeal his sentence.
