Lockhart PD investigates first homicide of 2024

LOCKHART, Texas (KXAN) — The Lockhart Police Department said it was investigating its first homicide case of 2024. The case involved the death of a 20-year-old.

Lockhart Police said the homicide occurred Friday just before 3 a.m. at a home located near S. Colorado and Prairie Lea Streets. The initial call, however, came in from a different location for a firearm being discharged at a home near Rosewood and Trinity Streets.

When LPD and Lockhart EMS arrived at the scene, they found Carlos Sanchez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital in Kyle, where he died just after 4 a.m.

LPD said the homicide was related to an earlier disturbance call received Thursday evening.

Police said they have identified a juvenile person of interest in the investigation. According to authorities, an arrest has not been made at this time.

Police Chief Gary Williamson said the incident was targeted and not random.
