Woman arrested for stabbing sheriff's deputy during welfare call

DEER PARK, Wash. - A woman was arrested for first and second degree assault for stabbing a Spokane County Sheriff's deputy during a welfare call.

Witnesses reported that the woman, 32-year-old Gloria Endress (aka: Engel W. Immer), was acting erratic, going up to houses, running through yards and jumping fences.

Multiple deputies arrived to the scene and one deputy approached Endress while she was talking to someone in a truck.

When the deputy got near Endress, she spun around, spraying pepper spray/mace and then stabbed the deputy in the upper left chest.

Endress still refused to drop the large knife and pepper spray she was holding and deputies used a taser to then take her into custody.

SCSO said as of Friday afternoon, the deputy's surgery went well and he is expected to be released from the hospital to continue healing at home before returning to duty.
