(CUSTER COUNTY, Colo.) — The Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said it has created a new program to help members of the community with VIN inspections and VIN verifications that will reduce the time needed to complete the needed exams.

CCSO said from time to time members of the community need to have a VIN inspection completed for a vehicle before it can be registered. This is usually due to a title problem or a salvage/branded vehicle title. In the past CCSO had only one deputy certified for VIN inspections and it could take a long time to get the deputy to the right location between calls for service.

There is also the less complex VIN verification that is required for out-of-state registered vehicles that need to be done before a vehicle can be registered for the first time in Colorado, according to CCSO.

According to CCSO, six staff members have been trained to be Certified VIN examiners with the state of Colorado where in the past there was only one. CCSO will now be able to schedule VIN verifications from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office located at 702 Rosita Avenue in Westcliffe. VIN inspections will be available on the first and third Wednesdays.

“We really think this will help members in the community by scheduling set days and times and being able to perform additional inspections with the newly trained staff,” wrote CCSO.
