    EPSO remembers deputy on 2nd anniversary of death

    (EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — On Wednesday, Aug. 7, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) honored the second anniversary of the death of Deputy Andrew Peery, remembering his bravery and dedication to protecting the community.

    In a post by EPSO, Peery was remembered as a hero who faced danger head-on and never hesitated to put the safety of others before his own. The post went on to say, “Let us take a moment today to remember Deputy Andrew Peery, honor his sacrifice, and reaffirm our dedication to the values he held dear. We miss you, Andrew, and we will never forget the impact “one man” can have.”

    Deputy Peery was killed in the line of duty during an officer-involved shooting on Ponderosa Drive in Security-Widefield on the evening of Aug. 7, 2022. He was hit by gunfire and gravely injured and later died in the hospital. Another woman and the shooter also died in the incident.

    Deputy Peery was also an Army veteran who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan as an Airborne Infantryman. He was described as an exemplary soldier who always strived to serve his country with honor.
