Florida Subway Shut Down After State Inspection

Articles that I write about sandwich chains tend to get much interest. Readers often have strong opinions about which chains (or grocery stores) sell the best submarine sandwiches in Florida. However, one Florida sub shop - a Subway in Clewiston - was recently temporarily shut down via state inspection.

About Subway In Florida: Not all Floridians are aware that Subway is partly headquartered in Miami. And there is no shortage of Subways in Florida since the state has over 1,200 stores.

The company has also recently seen some changes. In August of 2023, I wrote about the company being acquired by equity firm Roark Capital for $9.6 million.

Florida Feedback For The Subway In Question: The location in question, located at 940 W Sugarland Hwy Unit 15, in Clewiston, gets mixed reviews, earning a 3.7 out of 5 on Google reviews. Although some complimented some of the employees, many commented that the store is often out of bread.

A reviewer named Yazmeen wrote, in part:

"Today was the third time I (went) to this subway and they do not have bread! The staff is extremely rude, lazy, and disrespectful..."

What Happened At Inspection?: According to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, an inspection occurred on August 7, 2024. At that time, 6 violations were noted.

Examples of basic violations were damaged ceiling tiles and molding, the observation of dead roaches, and a floor that wasn't clean under cabinets.

High-priority violations came from the observation of live roaches and for bread on a rack not being covered.

As a result of some of the above violations, the facility was temporarily shut down. A follow-up on August 8, 2024, yielded no violations, so the restaurant "met inspection standards" and was free to reopen.

Please note that an inspection is one moment in time and not necessarily how a restaurant conducts itself every day.
