WATCH: International program at Otero College

(LA JUNTA, Colo.) — Otero College not only offers an array of different degrees but also a rich, cultural environment for students.

Maureen Rikhof, Director of International Programs at Otero College chatted live with Abbie Burke and Craig Coffey on Friday morning, June 28 about how international students make their way down to the college located in La Junta.

Rikhof said the college currently has around 75 international students. Most of them come to play sports and many others are involved in nursing or medical lab technician programs.

According to Rikhof, the international program partners with multiple organizations, including the local library where students work with younger children and teenagers.

“Our tagline is bringing the world to Otero, I really do like the fact that you can have an international experience, you can have those rich international dialogues with people that are coming to Otero to go to school and it immerses our whole community.”

International students give presentations about their country to kiddos in the library program. Otero College also hosts an International Foods Night every fall in La Junta, where students and the community can try different recipes.
