Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District officials reported a 17% increase in student enrollment over summer 2023.

The district includes both Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges; enrollment at Grossmont is up 19% for the summer with 15% growth for Cuyamaca.

The colleges serve over 20,000 students each year. Increasingly, flexible class schedules and learning support opportunities provide a wide range of education options for students.

“We’re seeing continued enrollment increases since COVID – especially with multiple programs in full swing at both colleges,” said Chancellor Dr. Lynn Ceresino Neault in a news release. “Students are returning with enthusiasm and the increases include current students looking to get ahead, as well as former students interested in earning more affordable units during the summer.”

Nearly 400 class sections are offered this summer between the two colleges, with approximately 8,000 students enrolled. The majority of summer classes are being offered on-line.

Fall semester enrollment is also trending upwards, officials said, with the start of the semester in August.

A recent study found that the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District has a $1.3 billion economic impact on San Diego County.

The study also concluded that Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges offer high value returns on the money invested. Students see a lifetime return of $7 for every dollar spent on their education for an annual return of 22%, far better than the stock market, which is historically about 10%.
