Fitzgerald Selected Iowa’s Outstanding Ag Teacher
BOONE, Iowa—Jim Fitzgerald, agricultural science teacher at Boone High School, was selected as Iowa’s 2024 Outstanding Ag Teacher by the Iowa Association of Agricultural Educators. This award program distinguishes secondary and post-secondary agricultural education teachers who are conducting the highest quality agricultural education programs in the state. The award recognizes leadership in civic, community, agriculture/agribusiness and professional activities. Outstanding agricultural educators are innovators and catalysts for student success in agricultural education. As the state winner, Fitzgerald advances to compete as the Iowa representative in the Region 3 Outstanding Ag Teacher Award for the National Association of Agricultural Educators.

Five Local Schools Land in Same 1A Substate
Class 1A Substate 6 will draw plenty of interest from those around the KCII listening area when the Iowa High School Athletic Association baseball playoffs get underway Saturday, July 6th. Five schools including Keota, Sigourney, Highland, Lone Tree and Hillcrest Academy will all start the tournament trail in the same grouping. Four of those teams, the Huskies, Lions, Savages and Ravens reside in the same district. Three of them, Sigourney, Highand and Lone Tree will begin in the same quadrant, and will be part of a doubleheader July 6th at Sigourney High School. Two of them, the Huskies and Lions will meet in that double dip.

Iowa state colleges see a decline in global ranking, international student enrollment
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The University of Iowa and Iowa State University have received lower rankings compared to previous years in the U.S. News & World Global Ranking report. UI has been ranked 225, and Iowa State 344. This year's report was out of 2,250 schools across more than 100 countries. UI saw a double-digit drop compared to 5 years ago, and Iowa State saw a triple digit drop.
