A Rainbow boa constrictor, typically 4-6 feet long, was recovered by Lacey police last week, a spokesman for the department said.

About 8:35 p.m. July 17, Lacey police and a community service officer were dispatched to the Walmart Supercenter parking lot on Galaxy Drive Northeast.

That’s where the 911 caller had found the snake, according to Sgt. Jeremy Knight.

Police later learned that the owner of the snake, apparently passing through the area, had stopped at the store to clean the snake’s cage. While the cage was being cleaned, the boa constrictor slithered away, Knight said.

In addition to police, Thurston County Animal Services also responded to the scene and recovered the snake, he said. Knight said the snake was reunited with its owner the next day.
