BUFFALO, N.Y. — A longtime Hertel Avenue bar/restaurant is readying to open under a new concept and ownership. 9 New Cafes to Try in WNY This Summer 2024
Looking for a good spot to grab a bite or drink without all the extra bells and whistles? A cafe is the way to go. For starters, it’s a quick option if you’ve got other places to be. BUT, it’s also a great spot if you’ve got nowhere to be and want to spend the whole day there. Not to mention, the casual-cozy atmosphere makes it easy for catching up with friends, going on a low-key date, or simply treating yourself. Needless to say —we love a good cafe.
Where the Bands Are: This week in live music & concert news
Hello, music lovers. Hope you’re all having an awesome and musical summer. I’m dropping a curated list of shows covering a two-week period this time around, as I’m taking some vacation time next week - my always-on-the-move son Declan is spending his break from SZA tour back home with us, and that time together has become even more rare and precious as the years fly by. So I’ll be avoiding burying my face in a computer or a phone, to get the most out of the experience.
Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab of Ornithology
I first discovered Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab of Ornithology earlier this summer, when I was trying to figure out the identity of a particular bird of prey in my neighborhood. After looking at a number of birding apps, I learned that Merlin could identify over 6000 different types of birds, by listening to their calls. Not only was I impressed by the number of bird calls that it had amassed, I also liked that Cornell is located close to Buffalo, in Ithaca, NY. In fact, in recent years, Cornell has been getting more involved with Buffalo on a number of levels. For example, each year, the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County hosts its spectacular Master Gardener Plant Sale at First Presbyterian Church of Buffalo.
