Leaders in microplastics research and relevant stakeholders from across New York state recently gathered for the Microplastics Summit hosted by the New York State Center for Plastics Recycling Research and Innovation at UB. The summit, whose purpose was collaboration to address microplastics issues that impact the state, took place at UB’s Center for Tomorrow from June 5-7.
Marcellus students attend FFA convention
Marcellus FFA recently had 16 members attend the 99th New York State FFA Convention in Buffalo. High school and middle school members joined over 2,000 FFA members from around New York State to compete in areas of maple production, agriculture sales, veterinary science, forestry and food science. Besides competing, our FFA members had the opportunity to participate in a number of tours, including Niagara Power Vista, Lactalis Cheese, and Upstate Dairy Cooperative. On the trip there, FFA members were also able to tour Oxbo, a leading international producer of specialized agriculture machinery. Throughout the convention, students developed leadership skills and learned about the extensive and diverse career opportunities in the world of agriculture.

Red Wings light up Buffalo, 11-2, for Fourth of July win
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Red Wings celebrated the Fourth of July at Innovative Field by providing their own fireworks on Thursday, hitting three home runs and recording 11 hits overall as they beat the Buffalo Bisons, 11-2. The Wings (46-37 overall, International League-leading 8-2 in the second half) fell behind early thanks to a two-run top of the first for Buffalo (40-44 overall, 3-7 in second half), including a solo shot by Bisons’ shortstop Gabriel Cancel. They answered back in the bottom of the second, however, as Drew Millas and Jackson Cluff hit back-to-back two-out singles before Alex Call golfed a Paolo Espino curveball low to left. The ball wasn’t hit particularly hard, with a 95.4 exit velocity, but it carried, angling over the left field for Call’s 10th home run of the season, a go-ahead shot to make it 3-2.

Terrel Bernard had one of the best NFL Draft introductions back in 2022. Kyle Brandt from Good Morning Football gave an electric speech to announce the Bills’ third round pick which ended up being Bernard. The Bills already had Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano as the starters, but there were questions on whether or not Edmunds would be back with the Bills due to cap space. In the end, the Bills made the right choice by drafting Bernard due to the fact that Edmunds left Buffalo and signed with the Chicago Bears.
