Independence Day: Is the American Dream of homeownership still alive?
For many, the 4th of July is about independence, freedom and self-reliance, and little embodies those values better than homeownership. It is the American Dream – buy your own home and raise a family in it. But that dream is falling out of reach for many average Central Floridians because of the mounting housing crisis in the region.
Villagers argue population growth requires reopening of theater
Wanda Tiltges of the Village of Fenney cannot believe that The Villages has ignored the voices of thousands of residents calling for the reopening of the Barnstorm Theater. “As a newer resident of The Villages I was surprised and disappointed to learn that The Villages’ ownership has pushed back and not responded to requests to reopen the movie theater in Brownwood,” Tiltges said. “To simply ignore over 3,500 people isn’t representative of the culture you strive for … the friendliest place to live.”
Neighbors should have shown more compassion for grandchildren problem
The Villages has a regulation regarding children living here. This is good for the comfort and serenity of the residents. However, I do not think any of us would deny grandchildren in peril a place to reside safely. What The Villages fails to recognize are that state laws supersede any HOA laws when it comes to child safety. As a neighbor I would have hoped you would go over and find out what the situation is before condemning them. I just hope none of you find yourself in the position as I am certain you would expect understanding and compassion for your situation.

Florida’s ‘Stop Woke’ law could endanger USF students’ education, professors say
Sociology professor Elizabeth Aranda said she wouldn’t be able to do her job if Florida’s “Stop Woke” law were put into effect. “Imagine you are an orchestra conductor but you’re missing every third page of the musical score,” Aranda said. “There would be no song to play. That’s how I envision having to teach under this law.”
