Roofing contractor builds shelter for Canfield man who waves at cars passing by home
If you drive down Route 46 in Canfield near the Kirk Road intersection, you've probably seen Christopher Wetzel. Wetzel sits outside of his Canfield home waving at all the cars that drive by and keeps count of each one that honks at him each day. He's tallied nearly 800 honks by Thursday afternoon.
2024 Italian Fest canceled, other Mahoning Valley Italian festivals remain on the schedule
The Italian Heritage Foundation of Youngstown has announced the cancellation of the 2024 Italian Fest that was set for Public Square on Aug. 2-4. This announcement came in the wake of the fatal blast at the Realty Building in late May that has devastated the downtown area, and has required several buildings around the square to be evacuated or closed because of safety concerns.
New Veterans Center coming to Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A new Veterans Center will be moving into the Valley with the help of some state funding. The Board of Mahoning County Commissioners and the Veteran’s Service Commission announced July 2 that the state of Ohio dedicated $650,000 in capital funding for a new $7 million state-of-the-art Veterans Center.

State finds 47 violations at Austintown mental and behavioral center, puts pause on new clients
Youth Intensive Services in Austintown can't accept any more clients until they make some changes. The Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services ordered the pause after they found 47 violations. The organization has a facility in the Mahoning Valley where children ages 12-18 stay to receive mental and behavioral support.

Decreasing clouds, showers this evening just in time for fireworks
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - It was an uncharacteristically gloomy 4th with occasional showers/drizzle. This, paired with sky-high humidity and highs near 80º made it feel positively tropical! While that part of the forecast won’t be changing much tonight for the many fireworks displays in store, showers and cloud coverage will decrease as the evening progresses. Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio will be free from any relentless rain or wind after sunset, even if an isolated shower/pop up can’t be completely ruled out due to the aforementioned humid conditions.
