Woman accused of dumpster diving at Youngstown store, throwing corn starch at guard
A woman who was dumpster diving at the back of a Save-A-Lot on South Avenue got upset and threw a bag of corn starch at a security guard and a manager. Youngstown police were called to the store on Saturday after employees reported a woman, identified as Summer Jackson, to be taking rotten meat from the dumpster, according to a police report.
Former caretaker accused of stealing nearly $10K from 99-year-old Brookfield man arrested in Sharon
A Farrell woman accused of taking money from a 99-year-old man will be brought to Trumbull County to face charges after her arrest in Sharon. Felicia Splitstone, 35, was arrested by Sharon police around 10:30 a.m. on June 28 and booked into the Mercer County Jail while awaiting extradition to Trumbull County.
Suspect in New Castle homicide arrested in Mahoning County
The suspect who was wanted in connection with a homicide New Castle has been arrested in Mahoning County on Wednesday. According to jail records, 32-year-old Andrew Howard was arrested by the Ohio Adult Parole Authority on a charge of fugitive from justice. Jail records show him to have had a warrant for criminal homicide out of Lawrence County.
Man reportedly struck in the head with a hammer at Youngstown gas station
A man reported to police that another man drove up to him and struck him in the back of his head with a hammer while he was pumping gas for someone at a gas station. The victim reported to police that he was walking near the Shell gas station on Market Street on Saturday when he a woman asked him to help her pump gas. While he was doing so, a man drove up in a gold car and struck him with a hammer, according to a police report.
Police investigating after Youngstown barber shop shot up
Police in Youngstown are investigating after a barber shop was shot up in the city early Tuesday morning. According to the police report, the call came in just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday reporting gunshots heard in an area of Mahoning Avenue. When police arrived, they found 12 spent shell casings outside of a barber shop in the area.

The final defendant in a Trumbull County arson death /aggravated murder capital case pleaded guilty on Friday and was sentenced to a life prison term immediately. Patricia A. Zarlingo, 29, of Youngstown, received a life prison sentence with first chance at parole after she serves 35 years in prison. She pleaded guilty to one count aggravated murder, two counts attempted aggravated murder, two counts aggravated arson, one count aggravated burglary and one count tampering with evidence.
Girard man gets three years in prison after pleading guilty to seventh OVI charge
The following criminal cases were handled June 27 before Judge Ronald J. Rice of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:. James C. Schwendeman, 40, of East Second Street, Girard, was sentenced to a composite three-year prison term after he had pleaded guilty to his seventh OVI charge in May. Judge Rice also sentenced him to a probation violation for a 2020 OVI conviction. Scwendeman was also fined $1,350 and given a lifetime driver’s license suspension. The latest conviction sprang from a July 22, 2023, traffic stop in Girard.
Canfield woman sues neighbors, city over 'sinkhole' injury
A Canfield woman is suing the city and neighbors claiming she was permanently injured after stumbling on a sinkhole down the street from her home. The civil lawsuit filed in common pleas court by Gina Powell seeks more than $25,000 in damages claiming that on June 22, 2022, she fell into “a concealed sinkhole” while walking along Fairview Avenue, a few doors away from her house.
