    Local 6A golfers qualify for state tournament

    Several local high school golfers recently qualified for the 6A state tournament after competing in district and regional tournaments over the past two weeks.

    First, at the Three Rivers League district tournament at Stone Creek Golf Course, Lake Oswego, led by sophomore Drew Woolworth, advanced as a team on the boys side. Woolworth was the second-place finisher conference-wide, while Lakeridge senior Nilay Naik took first, qualifying as an individual.

    Meanwhile, the Pacers’ Rylan Smalley also qualified as an individual at Stone Creek, while senior Adam Wrenn, senior Adam Blackmore, senior Braden Larsen and freshman Nathan Pai will complete the fivesome at state for the Lakers.

    Then, at the 6A Special District 2 at-large regional tournament on Monday, West Linn advanced as a group.

    The Lions will send a fivesome of sophomore Grady Kane, sophomore Cade McVicker, senior Kyle Tenison, sophomore Cade Lee and senior Jon McCoy to the state tournament next week.

    On the girls side, Lake Oswego also dominated at districts, as sophomore Hailey Kim, junior Ansley Kang, junior Olivia Mygrant, sophomore Alexis Zou and sophomore Kennady Hottel each finished inside the conference’s top-six to qualify as a team.

    Meanwhile, West Linn advanced as a group at the at-large regional on Monday, sending junior Alyssa Riehm, sophomore Grace Geyer, sophomore Emmie Butler, sophomore Ellie Hoffman and junior Madison Owens to the state tournament next week.

    The boys will be in action starting next Monday at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, while the girls start the same day at Emerald Valley Golf Course in Eugene.
