Motorsports rev up for Armada Fair
A variety of motorsports will get fairgoers’ motors running at the 2024 Armada Fair, set for Aug. 12-18. Motorsports activities will be held in the main arena of the fairgrounds, located on Fair Street in Armada. The Monster Trucks event will begin at 7 p.m. on Aug. 13. This year’s Demolition Derby, run by USA Demolition Derby and Figure 8s, and will be held Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. The Bump and Run and Figure 8 events will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 15. Truck and Tractor Pulls will be held on Aug. 17 at noon and 6 p.m., and on Aug. 18 at noon.
Memphis' Henigan, South Florida's Brown on Walter Camp Award Watch List
IRVING, Texas - Two American Athletic Conference quarterbacks were among the 50 players chosen to the 2024 Walter Camp Player of the Year Preseason Watch List. Memphis' Seth Henigan, the only fourth-year player nationally who will be a four-year starter at the same school, joined South Florida's Byrum Brown, who was one of only two players nationally (along with Heisman Trophy-winner Jayden Daniels of LSU) who had 3,000 passing yards and 800 rushing yards last season.

Westland expected to break ground on nearly $12M park this month
WESTLAND — City officials are planning a nearly $12 million park that they hope will help spark a downtown-like environment. The park, named Nankin Square, is slated for 3.9 acres between the Westland Community Health Center, 35700 Warren Road, and the city's main fire station at 35701 Central City Parkway.
