Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Dunkirk Man for Cocaine Possession
A Dunkirk man faces drug possession charges stemming from a recent traffic stop in the city. Dunkirk Police pulled over a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Jose Mendez-Gonzalez III in the area of 47 West Courtney Street during the early morning hours of July 15th. An investigation found that Mendez-Gonzalez allegedly possessed 31.6 grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Officers took Mendez-Gonzalez into custody and charged him with criminal possession of narcotics with intent to sell, 3rd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of 2nd-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, and several vehicle and traffic violations. Mendez-Gonzalez was arraigned in Dunkirk City Court and released on his own recognizance.

A voluntary recall has been expanded due to the potential health threat it poses in New York State. Wiers Farm Inc. of Willard, Ohio, is expanding its July 12, 2024, recall. The recall was initiated by findings reported by the Michigan Department of Agriculture. The vegetables at the center of the recall may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
