14-year-old missing from west Toledo
TOLEDO, Ohio — A 14-year-old has been reported missing from west Toledo, according to police. Milan Simpson is missing from the 1900 block of Penn Road by Dorr Street. Simpson is 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighs 95 pounds, has dark, brown, curly hair and was last seen wearing a white windbreaker, black pants and dark blue-and-white Nike shoes, Toledo police said on social media.

NWS says Tuesday’s storms were a derecho
FORT WAYNE (ADAMS) – The Storm Prediction Center sayas it was a derecho blew across Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio early Tuesday morning. A derecho is a straight-line windstorm that occurs over a large area with wind gusts of at least 58 mph. The storm spawned several tornadoes along it’s leading edge including twisters at O’Hare and Midway airports in Chicago and in northern Indiana.
City council to act on settlement of brutality suit arising from traffic stop
Toledo City Council is poised to approve Wednesday a $50,000 settlement with one of two women who sued the city and two police officers alleging brutality and false arrest during a traffic stop on New Year’s Day, 2023. Kaylynn Smart was a passenger in a car that police pulled over at Central and Maplewood avenues after it passed close to a vehicle involved in the response to an accident several blocks west of there on Central Avenue. In the lawsuit she filed Dec. 22 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio in Toledo, Ms. Smart claimed false arrest, unlawful imprisonment, unreasonable and excessive force, assault and battery, and related mistreatment by the two officers who performed the traffic stop, as well as seeking undisclosed punitive damages. Police officers Adam Hobbs and Ashlynn Pluff were disciplined for their conduct during the encounter, which was recorded on their cruiser’s dashboard camera.

Michigan DNR seeks volunteers for U.P. State Fair experiences
What's happening: One of the biggest annual events in the Upper Peninsula is looking for a helping hand, specifically when it comes to connecting youth with The Great Outdoors. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is requesting volunteers to help with the Pocket Park at the U.P. State Fair, which runs from August 12-18 in Escanaba. Specifically, volunteers will help kids learn various outdoor skills like catch-and-release fishing, learn how to shoot pellet guns or archery, staffing the fire tower and greeting people coming to the Fair.
