Danny's choice: would you rather a 10/10 stadium in Landover or a 5/10 at the RFK site?

Would you rather have a 5/10 stadium at the RFK site or a 10/10 stadium at the site of the stadium formerly known as FedEx Field?

Danny Rouhier, flying solo on Friday, put up an X poll about that, and in the first four hours it was pretty split, a 53.6% to 46.4% lead for a 10/10 in Landover.

If you’re conflicted as to why some would prefer a meh stadium in Ward 6 over THE state-of-the-art facility literally anywhere else, well, that nostalgia runs strong…and as we know, Danny is on that side, as he doesn’t care about anything involved as much as he cares about it being right there on the west banks of the Anacostia where the Redskins of yesteryear played.

“Grant and I are on completely opposite sides of this thing; the only thing Grant cares about is a nice stadium, which, by the way, is not a crazy thing to care about; I’m not belittling it. He says put that thing in Timbuktu, but give me the nicest escalator, the nicest seat, the nicest wi-fi, the nicest drink holder, the best in class everything,” Danny said. “I don't want it at waitlist field, or at the X, or a Nubs Field. To me, that's a failed site, right? There's a reason, respectfully, that Maryland's like, ‘You guys wanna build it there? You can build it there! Here's some money, build it there, great!’”

Nothing personal to Maryland, PG County, or Landover, but, yeah, to ol’ DR, what used to be located in Raljon and sponsored by a priority package carrier just stinks of failure.

“Are they doing that for a plot of land near National Harbor, or in Bethesda, or another spot or two in Maryland? No. You know why they're doing it there? There ain't nothing there and they'd like a win,” Danny said. “It's a failed site, I don't want to go to a failed site just because you can get there. It’s like the Groucho Marx ‘I wouldn't want to be part of any club that would have me as a member’ axiom.”

Danny gets that going back to RFK is going to be harder, costlier, and involve more bureaucracy, but, ‘it’s a really unique spot that borders a river, and there’s plenty of land which you don't ever see in a city-like environment, especially one as dense as Washington DC is in terms of population.’

    And…

“Look out the window here where we are in the Navy Yard: there used to be a McDonald's and a car wash, and now it's condos that I can't afford,” Danny said. “I would take a ‘C’ venue if it means going to DC. Look at potential budget limitations of the District, where it didn't look like they could borrow any more money, let alone billions of dollars that it would probably take on a bond or otherwise to help finance this thing, and look at the Harris ownership group, who may not have the billions it's gonna take ultimately to get the land and build the infrastructure that's needed to host this mini-city that needs to happen for these stadiums to be successful, to help pay back some of that money that they're planning on borrowing. So it may not have the nicest stuff…but it'll be better than FedEx.”
