ANTIGO — The free tax preparation program which was held this year at the Langlade County Senior Center will conclude next week.

The AARP-sponsored program, through which IRS-trained tax preparers file taxes for Langlade County residents over 50 years old for free, was held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at the Senior Center for the past two months.

Judy Smith, a local coordinator for the program along with Lil Tower, said around 200 people signed up for the program this year — a slight decrease from years prior — but that the two months still went well.

“If they didn’t come here, most of the time, what these seniors would get back, they would be paying to the tax preparer anyways. So this saves seniors from having to pay to have their taxes done,” Smith said.

Smith said visitors who signed up for the program were very appreciative of her and other volunteers with the program.

“We all enjoy doing it for the people,” she said, “and we hope the program continues for years to come.”
